2024 AVMA Convention

The AVMA's new Pollinator Series was a great success at this years convention in Austin, TX. The Bat Cruise offered 3 hrs CE from three bat experts on the importance of bats to our ecosystems, their behavior, about white nose syndrome and the vampire bats of the SW.

The Plants, Pollinators and Honey Bee lectures were held at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Two plant ecologists joined three HBVC vets to talk about bee health/disease and the importance of plant and animal pollinator biodiversity. The effects of global climate change on pollinators and the implications for food security was an important topic.

For the first time, HBVC had a booth in the exhibit hall visited by hundreds of convention participants. The AVMA donated this booth as part of their support for pollinator conservation and Better Bee donated a demonstration hive equipment/PPE/tools to show new bee vets.

See you next year in Washington D.C. where hands-on bee labs will be at the USDA Bee Research Lab in MD.  A new pollinator series will be held at the National Zoo as well. Stay tuned!

Dr. Elizabeth Mackey, Dr. Kristin Clark, AVMA President-Elect Dr. Michael Q. Bailey and Dr. Terry Ryan Kane
